Harry Potter Party!

Hey Muggles!  We’re having a Harry Potter party to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Who:  Everyone!
What:  Snacks!  Activities!  Plot discussion!
When:  July 14 from 11 am to noon
Where:  @ your library!
Why:  We’re having the party before the book releases so that no one will spill the beans about what happens to Harry!

The library will have copies (books and audio) of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows available for check out after the July 21 release date!

Mark it on your calendars

Our first teen summer reading event of the year is July 5!  We’re going to meet at the Canadian County museum and ride the trolley downtown.  Then there will be a massive scavenger hunt that canvases downtown.  Finally, we’ll meet back at the library for snacks!

Sound like the coolest thing ever?  Yah, I thought so too.  The only catch is that you HAVE to have a permission slip signed to participate.  Swing by the library and pick one up OR print one from our website.  Also, there will be slips in the summer reading packets which you can pick up starting next Monday, June 25.

 Other summer reading events include:

July 12 - Car Craft:  Fuzzy Dice
July 19 - Oregon Oklahoma Trail
July 29 - Movie - TBA

Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars

Nearly 30 people turned up to celebrate Star Wars’ 30th Anniversary!

We’ve got a few pics posted over at our flickr site.

Pizza!!! (and a TAB meeting…)

Our Teen Advisory Board* will meet Thursday, May 31 from 5:30-6:30 pm.  We’ll have pizza.

Hot topics of discussion:
1.  Summer Reading
2.  TAB’s summer meetings
3.  Whatever the heck you want

Everyone’s invited!  Email Kate with questions.

*What’s a TAB?  If you’re in grades 6-12 and have any sort of opinion what-so-ever about books, magazines, libraries, etc. then being a TAB member is the thing for you!  Of course, you could just show up for the pizza…

Promptly at 8 am

I’ll be at the Roblyer Middle School morning assembly tomorrow (the last Wednesday of school!!!) morning.  I’ll wave brightly colored fliers around and yammer about the summer reading program.  Can’t wait to see the bleary, morning-eyed faces of El Reno’s 6 & 7th graders!

 -Kate.

*apologizes profusely*

This blog has languished - lonely and unvisited - for far to long!  Valiant attempts to update more regularly are, of course, on the way.

“What’s going on at the library?” one might ask.  Here’s a quick rundown:

 1.  Mother-Daughter book club meets tonight and then breaks for the summer.  The book:  An Abundance of Katherines by John Green.  The Time:  7 pm.  The Place:  The library.

2.  Star Wars Anniversary Party!  May 26, 11am -12pm @ the library.  Come dressed as your favorite Star Wars character!  Win prizes!  Crafts and snacks for kids!  Trivia and general Star Wars admiration for adults.  !!!

3.  TAB meeting.  Thurs, May 31.  5:30-6:30 A Big Decision will be made: break for the summer or keep meeting?  It’s highly likely that there will be pizza at this meeting.

4.  School visits concerning Summer Reading ‘07:  Roadtrip!  Watch for a slightly nervous, mostly silly librarian to come speak at your elementary or middle school.

Guess what I’m reading…

Wanna keep track of what you’ve been reading?  Like to keep tabs on your friends reading habits too?  Check out these sites:

Goodreads.com  - create a profile, then list all of the books you’ve read, want to read, or are currently reading!  Also, you can type in reviews and rate the books.

Librarything.com  - connects you with other readers who are reading what you’re reading!  Literary matchmaking! (this site also has the Book Suggester (find books that are like one’s you’ve already read) and the Unsuggester (find books that are the TOTAL opposite of what you’ve read!)

Whatsonmybookshelf.com  - a site designed to help people swap books.  Of course, you can ALWAYS donate your old books to the library instead of swapping them…

*full disclosure*  I, Kate, am a member of both goodreads and librarything.  I’ve only just started putting books on though.  *end disclosure*
